In the discussion on 7th November, Lecturer claimed that the source of fabrics is the fashion industry, for instance, closed down businesses.

Fabric Story: Jersey
Jersey is a single knit fabric that has more give in the crosswise direction than in length. Due to its structure, it is easy to run or have a curled edged when it is cut.
According to the reference, the name ‘jersey’ is originated from the island of Jersey in England. Fisherman started to use a jersey that was heavier than fabric in the early 2000s. The term is now used to describe athletic shirts. Until Lillie Langtry, ‘the Jersey Lily’ used jersey to make fashionable daywear in 1879, the fabric was mainly used for hosiery and sweaters. In the 1920s, Gabrielle Chanel made the fabric famous by creating comfortable women’s wear (dress and suits) using jersey.
