According
to Ian Mankin (British Weaver of furnishing fabric), the word tick has an
origin in the Greek word 'case' or 'covering', and tick has meant 'a basic sack’
for the mattress. Ticking fabric has been around 1,000 years. Densely woven fabric prevented insects, straw and feathers from poking through.
Traditionally, it has been used for mattress & pillows.
