According to the reference below, glen check is the officially registered name in the Scottish Register of Tartans. Other names such as Glenurquhart check, glen plaid and prince of wales check are also known. The fabric has houndstooth patterns among other geometric patterns. The first form of glen check was reported to be registered in 1840. After 40 years, Edward VII, previously known as prince of wales, frequently wore such pattern, which led the pattern to be known as ‘prince of wales check’.
